From 2014-2017 I was the Director of Public Programs at the Indiana Medical History Museum, formerly the Pathological Department of Indiana’s Central State psychiatric Hospital. The museum is devoted to preserving and interpreting the history of scientific medicine in Indiana, and it has everything: a gorgeous autopsy theater, brains in jars, antiquated scientific equipment, original patient records, and much more.
At the IMHM I recruited and trained volunteer docents, managed web content and social media, and arranged events, programs, and talks related to medical history. It was here that I discovered my love of bringing together historical research and public engagement. I regularly take my students from IUPUI to tour this fascinating old medical laboratory. It is one of my favorite places in the entire world!
